Nazareth College begins fall semester on campus on August 17

Published May 29, 2020

Nazareth College is working on a safe and healthy emergence for the fall semester 2020 and is developing and enacting detailed plans that prioritize the health and safety of our Nazareth community, consistent with state guidelines and parameters.

Summer B courses (June 28-August 5) will take place through online delivery. Information on possible clinical placements in Summer B will be forthcoming soon.

Nazareth is planning changes to the College's fall academic calendar. Minimizing population travel and movement has proved a key strategy in maximizing the health and safety of communities by reducing potential exposure and transmission of the COVID-19 virus. In light of the potential for future waves of the virus, particularly in the fall months, the new schedule allows the College to maximize time on campus and reduces the impact of large-scale travel:

  • Nazareth plans to start classes on August 17 on campus. This will allow the College to complete the semester earlier, while still including the full amount of hours and content, consistent with the U.S. Department of Education's requirements for semester length.
  • Nazareth will hold classes on Monday, September 7, Labor Day.
  • The week of September 28 will include two reading days.
  • Classes will wrap up by Thanksgiving, with finals week concluding on Tuesday, November 24.
  • Students with clinical, student teaching, or other placements and internships may need to continue beyond Thanksgiving break.
  • Move-in and orientation plans and dates are currently being adjusted, and the college will follow up with more details.

"We know our community's ability to embrace new approaches will meet our goal of successfully and safely moving forward with in-person classes this fall. To that end, our task force and committees continue to develop plans and protocols and, as always, we promise to communicate as frequently and quickly as possible," said Vice President of Academic Affairs Andrea Talentino. "While there will be new adjustments, one thing remains steadfast: our commitment to providing an environment for safe, transformational learning that challenges and prepares students to pursue lives of meaning and purpose."
