Nazareth School of Business and Leadership announces global case study competition winners

Published July 01, 2021

The Nazareth College School of Business and Leadership’s (SBL) commitment to experiential and global learning was on display as 15 universities recently competed in Nazareth’s first-ever global case study competition to foster collaboration, team-building, and competition. The winners were announced June 30 in a virtual awards ceremony. The teams were tasked with analyzing streaming services during the pandemic and specifically the streaming war of Netflix vs. Disney+ and whether Disney+ can catch up with Netflix.

“The competition was immensely successful. We had to turn away additional teams from many universities that participated. For example, we had seven teams from one university, and we could only accept one from each,“ said Kenneth Rhee, dean of Nazareth’s School of Business and Leadership. “The quality of the submissions was impressive, and the winning teams demonstrated a remarkable combination of stellar analysis and creativity.”

Teams from China, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Peru, Romania, Ukraine, Romania, and Vietnam participated. The winning teams are below, click on the link to see their case studies.

1st Place: Laurea Team, Laurea University of Applied Science, Finland

2nd Place: SolBridge Team, SolBridge International School of Business, South Korea

3rd Place: Balázs SZENTES, University of Pannonia, Faculty of Business and Economics, Hungary

Honorable Mention: Team One Value, Kwansei Gakuin University, Institute of Business and Accounting, Japan

The competition brought together student teams from around the world to tackle a specific business challenge facing a company. Student teams of up to five members had one week to complete an analysis and present their solution. To sweeten the pot, there was a cash prize for the top three teams.

Nazareth is committed to global experiences. While students weren’t able to physically go global in 2020-21, Nazareth created the competition to bring global experiences to students.

“I think this event is a prime example of SBL’s resiliency and innovative spirit. When the pandemic hit us, we did not throw in the towel. We figured out a way for students to participate in the global experience and create invaluable learning experiences for them. We will continue the competition in the future, and SBL will continue to innovate to enhance our students’ global experience,” said Dean Rhee.
