Nazareth College director of Residence Life is honored

Published July 18, 2022

Nazareth College Director of Residence Life and Community Standards Vicky Gebel is receiving accolades for her commitment to students along with her integrity and personalized approach to student development. She was awarded the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education: NASPA Region II Mid-Level Student Affairs Professional of the Year award at the annual conference hosted in June in Niagara Falls, New York. NASPA is a member-centered association supporting a diverse and passionate network of 15,000 professionals and 1,200 institutions across the globe.

The care and concern that Vicky demonstrates for students and their personal development is at the heart of her actions day in and day out, and her efforts have made positive differences in the daily lives of students and in the functioning of the College,” said Kim Harvey, Nazareth’s associate vice president for student & campus life/dean of students. “Undeniably, the College has become a more hospitable, supportive organization because of her.”

Gebel joined Nazareth College in July 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and it did not take long for colleagues across the campus to see her determination, professionalism, thoughtfulness, and unwavering commitment as she jumped in to learn a new institution, manage the overall safety and wellbeing of residential students, and start to create a strategic vision for residential life. She has 15 years’ experience in higher education; prior to Nazareth, she worked at SUNY Geneseo and Alfred University.

Beyond campus, Gebel is actively involved in NASPA Region II and has served in a leadership role on the conference planning team the past five years.

Harvey, who nominated Gebel, says she is an exemplary educator, administrator, and student advocate in the highest tier of all student affairs administrators she’s worked with in her career. “She is poised to continue to be a national leader in the field of student affairs administration,” said Harvey. Gebel also received letters of recommendation from former colleagues Terri Stewart, former Nazareth director of Campus Safety now at Colgate University, and Kathy Woughter, former vice president for student affairs at Alfred University.
