Ray Cruz named director of Campus Safety at Nazareth

Published June 06, 2022

Nazareth College is proud to name Ray Cruz as the College’s director of Campus Safety. He has been a member of Nazareth’s Department of Campus Safety for more than a decade, has a wealth of higher education public safety experience, and prides himself on the relationships he’s forged.

Cruz worked his way up the ranks since starting at Nazareth in 2012, most recently serving as interim director of Campus Safety, and prior to that was assistant director. He previously served as security supervisor at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA.

“Ray clearly has the experience, training, skills, and temperament needed to lead the department and be successful in helping keep our students and entire campus community safe,” said Vice President for Finance Patrick Richey.

Cruz has been a member of Nazareth’s threat assessment team since its inception and served as senior investigator for Campus Safety and as the College’s primary Title IX investigator.

“I have built partnerships from the ground up both at Nazareth and in the greater Rochester community, including robust partnerships with my peers in local law enforcement,” said Cruz.

Nazareth College maintains a full-time, 24-hour Campus Safety department. All uniformed officers are registered guards in accordance with the New York State Security Guard Act and provide foot and vehicle patrols of all residence halls, academic buildings, and campus parking areas. All officers are trained in crisis intervention, emergency response procedures, fire safety, first aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillators. Campus Safety is responsible for identifying prevention programs and strategies to support a safe and secure academic environment. The department also maintains a strong commitment to supporting the educational goals of the campus community. In doing so, the department seeks to preserve an environment where diverse social, cultural, and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper.
