Bestselling author Robin Wall Kimmerer speaks at Nazareth College on March 7

On the heels of winning a MacArthur Fellow grant — the so-called genius grant — author Robin Wall Kimmerer is speaking at Nazareth at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in Nazareth Arts Center’s Callahan Theater. The event is free, and no tickets are required. The theater seats nearly 1,000 people, and doors open at 4:30 p.m. ASL interpretation provided.

Anne McCaffrey ’89, a civic leader and changemaker in western New York health care, will be Nazareth’s Commencement speaker on May 12 and 13, 2023. Nazareth will honor this accomplished alumna and board of trustees member with a doctor of humane letters at Commencement.

New Flower City Down Syndrome Network Scholarship established at Nazareth

A new Flower City Down Syndrome Network Scholarship at Nazareth will help prepare more teachers and other professionals dedicated to helping children with Down Syndrome. The Flower City Down Syndrome Network is giving Nazareth $25,000 for an endowed scholarship.

Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties opens Thursday

Nazareth’s Theatre and Dance Department presents Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties, written by Jen Silverman and directed by Cara Hinh. This comedic, absurd, stylized, queer-centric play takes the stage in the Nazareth Arts Center’s Callahan Theater on Thursday, February 16; Friday, February 17; and Saturday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, February 18, and Sunday, February 19, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 each, and $10 each for senior citizens. Buy tickets: Nazareth Arts Center Box Office. An opening night reception is in the lobby of Callahan Theater from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Battle of the Beaks is Back

The Battle of the Beaks rivalry and charitable effort returns to Nazareth as the Golden Flyers men’s and women’s basketball teams take on St. John Fisher on Saturday, February 11. The women play in Kidera gym at 5 p.m., and the men play at 7 p.m. A big part of the Battle of the Beaks each year is the fundraising efforts that are coordinated by Nazareth students.

Three Nazareth College students studying for a career in the medical field believe learning firsthand about different cultures will help them better understand future patients. They are getting study abroad experience through prestigious 2023 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships from the U.S. Department of State.
