Nazareth University is being nationally recognized for its commitment to mental health, including campuswide integration of mental health initiatives like accessible services, peer support, and proactive policy. Insight Into Academia magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education, is honoring Nazareth with a 2025 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being award. Nazareth will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the September 2025 issue of Insight Into Academia magazine.
Nazareth’s transformative initiative — the Well-Being Collective — is a vital reason for Insight Into Academia magazine selecting Nazareth for this award. The Nazareth University Well-Being Collective is an interdisciplinary group of students, staff, and faculty who have been brought together from across campus to support and implement our commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community through shared resources and initiatives.
"At Nazareth, we believe that supporting mental health and well-being is foundational to student success. This national recognition affirms the work we’ve done to embed well-being into the fabric of the Nazareth student experience,” said Nazareth’s Associate Provost and Dean of Students Kim Harvey. “The tools and partnerships we’ve invested in—like You at Naz and our work with the Jed Foundation—are preparing our students not just to succeed in college, but to flourish long after they graduate and lead a purposeful life.”
A three-year federal grant of $300,000 makes the Well-Being Collective possible. In fall 2023, Nazareth was one of only 22 colleges and universities nationwide to be awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). A key component of the Well-Being collective is You at Naz, a web-based platform that helps students manage their total wellness, from mental and physical health to friendships and finding balance.
Nazareth is also in the midst of a 4-year collaboration with the nationally recognized Jed Foundation for strategic planning expertise to build on existing strengths and improve mental health and connections all across the campus community, for healthier, safer students.
“We know that institutions are not always recognized for their dedication to their mental health and well-being services and support for their students and employees,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. “We are proud to honor these colleges and universities as role models for other institutions of higher education.”
