The 6th Annual Nazareth Poetry Contest on "Peace and Justice"

Nazareth College’s Foreign Languages and Literatures department will host the sixth annual poetry competition, Writing for Peace and Justice: “The Quest for Freedom” on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Nazareth College Arts Center Room A14. Mrs. Connie Fredericks, sister of late singer, Carole Denise Fredericks will start the evening with the keynote address: “Safeguarding your Freedom” at 5:30 p.m. For more information, please contact Sarah Sarkin, French House Animatrice at ssarkin7@naz.edu or Mireille Le Breton at mlebret5@naz.edu.

The competition will feature 100 students and members of the Rochester community who will recite original poetry or read poems from their favorite Francophone poets on the subjects of peace, liberty, and the “quest for freedom” in front of a panel of 24 judges and a planning committee made of 13 Nazareth College students. At 8:00 p.m., the Franco-American choir will perform songs of freedom to honor the late Carole Denise Fredericks. At 8:30 p.m., awards will be given to the winners. First-prize winners will be invited to recite their poems once more in front of the audience.

About the Keynote speaker:
Mrs. Fredericks-Malone has 30 years of experience in performing arts, arts management, marketing, college student services and communications. She is known for her work with the CDF music group and with the Carole Fredericks Foundation, which was created for her late sister in 2006. Mrs. Fredericks-Malone has held several positions over the years such as Executive Director of a non-profit art services organization in Geneva, New York: the Finger Lakes Arts and Grants. In Long Island, New York, she was the Assistant to the Director of Higher Education Opportunity Program, and was also the Academic Support Center Coordinator for Five Towns College.

Alliance Française de Rochester, The Aquinas Institute of Rochester, Brighton High School, Canandaigua Academy, Eastridge High School, Nazareth College of Rochester, Pittsford Mendon High School, St. John Fisher College, and Williamson High School.
