Nazareth’s Department of Music showcases student talent with five April concerts
April showers bring musical flowers this month as the Nazareth College Department of Music presents five concerts showcasing the vocal and instrumental talents of students.
This Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel, the Nazareth College Chamber Singers will perform local composer Glenn McClure's Caribbean Mass for steel drums and choir. The work celebrates the marriage of Latin American cultures and the spiritual legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi, with text in Greek, Italian, Latin, Spanish, and English. Under the direction of Mark Zeigler, professor of music, the work mixes traditional parts of the mass with several of the saint's writings written with musical styles of the New World. The Chamber Singers will be joined by the Panloco Steel Band for McClure's composition. Other works on the program include movements from Debussy's Trois Chansons and spirituals like Set Down Servant, arranged by Robert Shaw, and Ain't a That Good News, arranged by Kirby Shaw.
