Nazareth Commencement at Blue Cross Arena with Address by Dr. Brad Berk, May 11
Nazareth College will celebrate its 87th annual Commencement at the Blue Cross Arena in a joint ceremony with both undergraduate and graduate students receiving their degrees on Sunday, May 11. The ceremony begins at 9:45 a.m. and Dr. Brad Berk, senior vice president for health sciences at the University of Rochester and CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center, will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2014 graduates. Nazareth has 494 undergraduate students and 406 graduate students earning diplomas, including those students with a doctorate in physical therapy. This year’s graduating class consists of three Fulbright scholars: Teri Bunce of Spencer, N.Y., an international studies and history double major with a minor in French, will teach English in South Korea. Katelynn Kundrata of Hamlin, N.Y., a TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) major in the School of Education, will teach English in primary and secondary schools in Malaysia. Matthew Maloney of Fairport, N.Y., a history and Spanish double major with minors in legal studies and political science, will teach English in Andorra.
Berk received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Rochester. He has served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School, Emory University, and the University of Washington. He was previously Chairman of Medicine (1999–2006) and Chief of the Cardiology Unit (1998-2003) at the University of Rochester. He was appointed CEO in 2006 after a national search. In addition he was Director of the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute.
