Nazareth hosts Social Innovation Hack-a-thon with innovators from Rochester, California, and the Navajo Nation

Published October 15, 2020

Nazareth College is hosting its virtual Social Innovation Hack-a-thon on Friday, Oct. 16, from 2 - 6 :30 p.m. A social innovation is a novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than current solutions. The value created accrues primarily to society rather than to private individuals.

A Social Innovation Hack-A-Thon is a conference-style event that offers panel discussions, short presentations, and an experiential learning competition all focused on building knowledge and skills in the field of social innovation (SI). Students who attend will learn from leaders in their fields, and then be put into teams to brainstorm proposals that provide solutions to a current challenge our community faces. There are prizes for the winning proposal. Everyone walks away with increased knowledge, skills, and connections with others who want to make a difference.

You are welcome to attend individual sessions or participate in the full program.

Opening Panel Discussion 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Topic: Beyond Good Intentions - Approaching Social Innovation with Knowledge, Skills, and Humility

Moderator: Dr. Beth Paul, President, Nazareth College of Rochester

Adrian Hale, Senior Manager, Workforce / Economic Development & Education Initiatives at the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Inc

Denisa Livingston, Community Health Advocate, Diné Community Advocacy Alliance, Navajo Nation
