Nazareth Occupational Therapy program three-year pass rate is perfect

Published September 27, 2022

Nazareth College’s B.S./M.S. in Occupational Therapy program is celebrating three consecutive years with a 100 percent passing rate on the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (or NBCOT) exam.

Occupational therapists are in high demand and ranked among the top health care jobs. OTs have the privilege of working with individuals with impairments or disabilities to develop or regain the “occupations” that are meaningful in their lives. Occupational therapists may help people improve performance of daily living tasks, learn in school, engage in social relationships and community activities, or resume job duties impacted by illness or injury.

The five-year curriculum begins with OT classes freshman year. Senior year, students take five rigorous practice courses that provide hands-on clinical experiences; unlike at other colleges, they work with the same clients for 7 to 10 weeks. Students continue with the same advisor and automatically move into their master’s program without having to reapply.

Nazareth’s state-of-the-art York Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute is home to on-campus clinics, enabling OT students to work one-on-one, or in groups, with clients under the supervision of faculty. Students also have a wide range of other interprofessional academic and clinical experiences, clinical outreach activities, and fieldwork opportunities.

Occupational therapy jobs are expected to grow 18 percent (adding 23,700 jobs nationwide) in the decade ending 2028, much faster than average, according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics. U.S. News & World Report in 2022 ranks occupational therapists among the top 20 health care jobs and #31 overall among The 100 Best Jobs.
