Monroe County honors Nazareth’s Frank DiMino Casa Italiana as an outstanding community partner and supports Italian Film Series

Published October 19, 2026

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello honored Nazareth’s Frank DiMino Casa Italiana as an outstanding community partner with a proclamation given to Director Joëlle Carota during the county’s Italian-American Heritage Month event at the Monroe County Office Building on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Monroe County also announced a $3,000 grant given to the Frank DiMino Casa Italiana to promote its Italian Film Series at Nazareth University as part of the county’s regional cultural programming.

Bello shared his personal Italian heritage with the audience and highlighted the remarkable growth of the Frank DiMino Casa Italiana under Carota’s leadership in recent years. He also recognized the continued success of Nazareth University’s Italian undergraduate program, which offers both a major and a minor and prepares graduates for careers across a wide range of fields. As the only Italian cultural and academic center of its kind in upstate New York, the Frank DiMino Casa Italiana offers a rich cultural program open to the wider community, as well as opportunities for adults and children to explore Italian language and culture through classes and summer camps. Currently, 70 students are enrolled in its adult non-credit enrichment courses.

One popular cultural program is the Frank DiMino Casa Italiana’s Italian Film Series. Monroe County’s Department of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion awarded the Casa a $3,000 grant to promote the film series. Now in its fourth year, the series offers contemporary and critically acclaimed Italian films screened at the Nazareth Arts Center.

“Our goal is to continue expanding the Italian Film Series as a distinctive form of cultural and academic engagement, providing the Rochester community with regular access to contemporary Italian cinema and opportunities to explore Italian language, culture, history, and society through film,” said Carota. “The series is particularly meaningful because the Casa Italiana currently offers one of the region’s few recurring opportunities for the public to experience contemporary Italian films, many of which have received significant critical acclaim and major international film honors.”
