Judith Ricker

Judith Ricker has spent her career straddling Rochester’s arts and business worlds. Beginning in the fall of 2018 she will teach oboe at Nazareth College and play with the Wilmont Woodwind Quintet. She will also teach “Marketing for Musical Enterprises” in the Eastman School of Music’s newest graduate degree program, Master’s in Music Leadership.

After graduating from the Eastman School, from which she holds two degrees and the coveted Performer’s Certificate, Ms. Ricker won a position in the oboe section of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She remained with the Orchestra for 15 years, and now serves as a substitute when needed. She taught oboe and chamber music at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance for many years and has served on its Board of Directors, including as Board Chairperson during the 2016 through 2018 school years. She is a founding member of Antara Winds, a woodwind quintet that has performed several commissions and premiers over the years and has long championed compositions by living American composers. Antara Music was the group’s first CD project, and it includes works written expressly for Antara Winds as well as premier recordings of other works. Antara will be featured as guest artists on the Rochester Oratorio Society’s 2018-2019 season. Ms. Ricker is also an active performer with many local organizations, including the Rochester Broadway Theatre League, the Rochester Oratorio Society, and the Greater Rochester Women’s Philharmonic.

She earned an MBA from the William E. Simon School of the University of Rochester and went on to hold a variety of Market Research positions at Eastman Kodak Company, Harris Interactive, where she was President of the Brand and Communications Consulting Division, and Market Probe, as Executive Vice President of Brand Research. Her extensive and innovative work with these companies has led to numerous Ogilvy Awards for advertising effectiveness and an Effie Award for marketing communications effectiveness. While at Market Probe she developed an approach to measuring Brand Passion and was honored with the 2012 “Creative Mind Silver Innovation” award from the Advertising Research Foundation for that work. Judy also served as a consultant to Geva Theatre Center, providing marketing insights to their fundraising programs. She recently consulted to Eastman’s Institute for Music Leadership, to assist them in the development of an integrated marketing plan.

She and her husband, Eastman School of Music Professor Emeritus, Ramon Ricker own Soundown, Inc, a music contracting, consulting and publishing corporation. They share their home with two active Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
