Steve Greene earned his B.F.A. in Music from Bard College. He also studied music at The Eastman School of Music and the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He studied guitar with Don Ames, Dick Longale, Kevin Morse, and Gene Bertoncini.
Steve recorded Live In Your Living Room, voted one of the top five CDs by the editors of Acoustic Guitar Player Magazine, and Acoustic Living with the Steve Greene Trio. He is also known for his duo album with the great jazz guitarist, Gene Bertoncini, entitled Gene with Greene. Other recordings include performances with The White Hots: Caught In the Act, Live at the Little, and Live at the Clarissa Room. (www.thewhitehots.com)
Steve worked with the Garth Fagan dance company, most notably composing the piece Sojourn. He also collaborated with the Boston Dance Collective. Internationally, Steve teamed up with Sarah Brayer, a printmaker from Kyoto, composing the score for her interactive visual art. Steve composes commercial music as well.
As co-founder of The Handmade Orchestra, Steve inspired collaborative free-form music on instruments made by hand. “Music you’ve never heard before on instruments you’ve never seen before” embodies the creative work of the 15-piece orchestra, and which frees musicians to create beyond familiar music “rules”.
Steve interpreted the music of a number of modern composers in prose pieces, published in the journal Open Space.
