Financial Aid Checklists
Take advantage of our must-do checklists to help your financial aid process go smoothly.
Returning Undergraduate Students
- Using your FSA ID Number from the U.S. Department of Education (if you have misplaced your FSA ID, you can retrieve it at studentaid.gov, complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Nazareth University's priority deadline is March 1 and our school code is 002779.
- New York State residents must complete the Express TAP application (ETA) online following the FAFSA, or the paper application mailed to you, or at www.tapweb.org. Nazareth University's undergraduate TAP school code is 0525.
- If your FAFSA is selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, the financial aid office will contact you to request particular information. If federal tax return information needs to be verified, you must correct your FAFSA and authorize income verification through the IRS Data Retrieval process.
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy. If necessary, follow directions on your SAR to correct inaccurate items.
- Investigate private resources of financial aid for college.
- Promptly respond to any school requests for additional information or documents, such as verification requirements.
- Notify the Office of Financial Aid of any outside scholarships, grants, or other resources you have received or will receive.
- Receive your financial aid offer notice. You will be notified via Nazareth University email. Offers will be available on myfinaid. Review any accompanying information and contact the Office of Financial Aid with any questions.
- If you want to decline any or all of your financial aid offer, do so on myfinaid.
- Complete any financing options; payment plan form, Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan application, and/or private alternative student loan application. Click here for Additional Financing Options.
- Be alert to any billing notices and payment information provided by the Student Accounts Office. (For fall term, bills are available online during the first week of July, due in first week of August.)
New/Prospective Undergraduate Students
- Apply to colleges.
- Create an FSA ID — a user name and password — at studentaid.gov. A separate FSA ID is required for a student and parent (of dependent students). Each FSA ID user must have a unique email address. Keep your FSA ID, as you will need it to file a renewal FAFSA each year, sign federal loan applications, and access your student aid history online.
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. Nazareth University's preferred regular deadline is January 1 and standard regular decision deadline is February 1 and our school code is 002779.
- Early Decision applicants only: ASAP. (Typically the deadline to complete FAFSA for Early Decision is November 15, but in 2023 FAFSA is being revised and won't be available until December.)
- New York state residents: Complete the Express TAP application (ETA) online immediately following submission of the FAFSA, or at www.tapweb.org. Nazareth University's TAP undergraduate school code is 0525.
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy. If necessary, follow directions on your SAR to make changes.
- Investigate outside sources of financial aid for college.
- Receive acceptance letters and financial aid offers from colleges/universities. Review any accompanying information and contact the Office of Financial Aid or Admissions with questions.
- Fulfill admissions/housing deposits by the college deadline (May 1 for Regular Decision).
- If your FAFSA is selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, the financial aid office will contact you to request particular information. If federal tax return information needs to be verified, you must correct your FAFSA and authorize income verification through the IRS Data Retrieval process.
- Notify the Office of Financial Aid of any outside scholarships/grants that you have or will receive.
- Complete Entrance Counseling for any Federal Direct Stafford Loan you have accepted.
- Complete your Master Promissory Note for any Federal Direct Stafford Loan you have accepted.
- Complete any necessary paperwork, such as payment plan forms, PLUS loan applications, and/or private loan applications. Click here for Additional Financing Options.
- Be alert to any billing notices and payment information provided by the Student Accounts Office(For fall term, bills are available online during the first week of July, due in first week of August.)
New/Prospective Graduate Students
- Apply to colleges/universities.
- Create an FSA ID - a user name and password - at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. An FSA ID user must have a unique email address. Keep your FSA ID, as you will need it to file a renewal FAFSA each year, sign federal loan applications, and access your student aid history online.
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. It is highly recommended that you authorize income verification through the IRS Data Retrieval process on the FAFSA in order to avoid being selected for federal income verification later in the process. Nazareth University's school code is 002779.
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy. If necessary, follow directions on your SAR to make changes.
- If your FAFSA is selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, the financial aid office will contact you to request particular information. If federal tax return information needs to be verified, you must correct your FAFSA and authorize income verification through the IRS Data Retrieval process.
- Receive your financial aid offer notice listing estimated aid eligibility. You will be notified via Nazareth College email. Awards will be available on myfinaid.
- If you want to decline all of your Federal Direct Stafford Loans, do so on myfinaid.
- If you wish to reduce the amount of any Federal Direct Stafford Loan, please call the Financial Aid Office at 585-389-2310 or email us at finaid@naz.edu.
- Complete your Master Promissory Note for any Federal Direct Stafford Loan you have accepted.
- Complete any additional financing paperwork needed; payment plan forms, Federal Direct GRAD PLUS Loan applications, and/or private alternative student loan applications. See Additional Financing Options for more information.

- Receive your financial aid offer. You will be notified via your Nazareth University email. Awards will be available on myfinaid.
