The Nazareth College Music Department and Nazareth College Ensembles are pleased to present New England Portraits on Sunday, November 6, at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel.
This concert will feature the Nazareth College Brass Choir (Jeremy Stoner, conductor), Chamber Winds (Jared Chase, conductor), and Wind Symphony (Jared Chase, conductor). The Brass Choir will open the concert, followed by a work for Chamber Winds and voice featuring Nazareth College voice faculty and soprano Kim Upcraft on “Alcott Songs” by Rochester-based composer Steve Danyew. Danyew has set several of Louisa May Alcott’s poems to music for chamber winds, and Upcraft is a versatile performer who has also appeared with the Eastman Opera Theatre and Eastman Philharmonia.
The Wind Symphony will close the concert with a rarely heard performance of William Schuman’s “New England Triptych,” followed by a piano concerto featuring faculty member Jacob Ertl. The program will close with Charles Ives depiction of Orchard House from Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women in his work “The Alcotts” followed by a dramatic conclusion with Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait.
This performance is free and open to the public.
