Al Heary

BIOGRAPHY

Al Heary received a BS in Music Education and Performance from Ithaca College and a MM in Music Education from SUNY at Fredonia. He completed three levels of Orff-Schulwerk Training from the Eastman School of Music and three levels of Kodaly Training at Nazareth College. Al has also completed Lynn Kleiner’s Music Rhapsody Early Childhood Music Training. He also served as a member of the NAfME PreK-2 Music Standards Writing Committee.

Mr. Heary is a retired music educator. He taught elementary vocal music in the Rochester City School District, high school vocal music at East Irondequoit and spent the majority of his career with the Webster School District teaching Elementary Vocal Music. He also served as the district’s lead teacher for Elementary Vocal Music.
Al also works with various high school and community groups as vocal director and accompanist for their musicals.

Mr. Heary has served as President, Past-President and Treasurer of the Greater Rochester American Orff Schulwerk Association(GRAOSA). He also was the Region V Representative on the American Orff Schulwerk Association Board of Trustees and the National Conference Chair for the 2018 AOSA Conference in Cincinnati. Currently he is a coordinator for the Orff Schulwerk Summer Levels Course at Nazareth College.
