Mitch Ford ’16 and Maurice Mills ’16, the top two scorers in the Empire 8 Conference, were recognized on the D3hoops.com All-East Region team for men’s basketball. Ford was a second-team selection and Mills made the third team. In addition, Ford was chosen as a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star and Mills was a second-team selection.
Ford, of Victor, N.Y. and a graduate of Victor High School, led the E8 with a 21.4 points per game scoring average. He also averaged 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field (155-for-312) and 73.4 percent from the free throw line (105-for-143). He was named three times as E8 Player of the Week. His season also was highlighted by a school-record shattering 49-point performance against Ithaca on February 17.
Mills, of Utica, N.Y. and a graduate of Proctor High School, finished second in the E8 in both scoring (18.5 ppg.) and rebounding (10.5 per game) while leading the league in blocked shots at 2.2 per game. He was third in the league in field goal accuracy at 54.9 percent (173-for-315) and shot 67.2 percent from the free throw line (117-for-174). He was twice honored as E8 Player of the Week and finished the season by surpassing the 1,000-point mark in career scoring. He also set a school single-game record by grabbing 23 rebounds in a game against Hilbert in January.
