90 Endowments for the 90th Anniversary

In celebration of its upcoming 90th anniversary, Nazareth College aims to establish 90 new endowed funds by fall 2014. With 74 endowments committed since the start of the Campaign for College and Community, only 16 endowed funds remain to reach that goal and help keep Nazareth strong for the next 90 years and more.

“Gifts to endowed scholarships and funds are invested, with a portion of the interest awarded each year, to provide support in perpetuity and provide a lasting legacy,” explains Margaret Cass Ferber, vice president for finance and treasurer. “Endowed funds support the needs of our students today while preserving funds for the students of tomorrow.” Funds from the endowment are also vital because they reduce dependence on tuition and create a more financially sound institution.

Endowed faculty chairs draw on new worlds to engage their students, raise teaching to new levels, enhance Nazareth’s reputation in the academic community, and attract outstanding faculty to the College. Endowed funds support interdisciplinary centers, international study and travel programs, book funds, technology, and other critical resources that extend student intellectual growth and global citizenship. Endowed student scholarships provide expanded access to Nazareth students by supporting both need-based and merit-based aid. They leverage the College’s resources, attract exceptional students, and help to fund graduate assistantships.

“I was fortunate to have received a scholarship when I was student at Nazareth,” says Jennifer Medden Giessler ’95, campaign council committee endowment co-chair. “I’m able to pay it forward by establishing the endowed Medden Giessler Family Endowed Scholarship through a bequest.”
