Frequently Asked Questions

Visa Issues

Can you write a letter to expedite the processing of my visa?

No, unfortunately we cannot expedite your visa application. U.S. Embassy and Consulate officers have asked universities to stop sending letters regarding all student visa applications.

On-Campus Housing

I reserved a room on campus. How early can I move in?

New international students should plan to arrive no earlier than the official move-in date. No check-ins will be permitted before this.

I reserved a room on campus, but have not received my housing assignment. When should I expect to receive it?

If you do not receive your housing information by the beginning of August (Fall Semester) / December (Spring Semester), you should contact Residential Life via phone at +1 (585) 389-2340.

Off-Campus Housing

How can I find off-campus housing?

There are many websites where you can find advertisements for apartments in Rochester and its suburbs. The problem with most of these is that the apartments do not have to pass any inspection before they are listed. Therefore, while some apartments may be in safe neighborhoods and good condition, others may not be.

We strongly advise you to check the location of the potential housing in relation to Nazareth's campus, as well as its proximity to direct bus routes. Neighborhoods close to Nazareth and bus routes include Pittsford Village, Brighton, Park Avenue, and East Avenue.

Paying Your Bill

When will I receive my bill?

Student Accounts will send bills to all undergraduate students who have registered during the course selection period by the second week in July (Fall) and by the first week in December (Spring).

Graduate bills will be sent out by the third week in July (Fall) and by the second week in December (Spring).

Exchange students will receive their bills online via NazNet when their course registration is complete.

If you have registered but do not have a bill three weeks prior to the start of the semester, please call Student Accounts at +1 (585) 389-2045.

When should I pay my bill and how can I pay it?

Payment is expected by the end of the first week of classes every semester. You can pay your bill online via Flywire or in person at Student Accounts. In person payments can only be paid by cash or traveler's check; credit cards are not accepted.

*Note: Any late payments will incur a $250 late fee.

When do I get my Naz ID card?

You can stop by the Campus Safety Office on your first day on campus to get your picture taken and your ID card printed.

How do I set up my Naz e-mail account?

Employment

Can I work?

You cannot work or intern without authorization from the CIE and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office (USCIS). How can I find an on-campus job?

Social Security Card

Do I need a social security card?

Unless you have been offered a part-time job or are required to complete an internship, you do NOT need a social security card.

If you DO plan to work in the United States, you must have a social security number for tax purposes. Your social security number is used to keep track of your payroll earnings, income taxes, etc.

How do I get a social security card?

In order to qualify for a social security card, you must:

  1. Be a full-time student at Nazareth College
  2. Be in legal F-1 or J-1 status
  3. Be offered a part-time job on campus
  4. Obtain a letter from the CIE and your employer
  5. Complete the application for a social security card
  6. Bring your passport, I-20/DS-2019, letters, and completed application to the Social Security Administration Office

The CIE will provide transportation to the Social Security Administration Office at the beginning of every semester for those students who need to apply.

Grace Period

How long can I stay in the U.S. after my program is completed?
