Creating Online and Hybrid Courses at Nazareth College
Dean-approved faculty preparing to teach fully online or hybrid Moodle courses can take a six-week, online Essentials Workshop. Historically, the class has been limited to 15 participants. Priority is given to faculty developing online/hybrid courses for the semester following the course. If the class is full, the coordinator of teaching and learning technologies will advise you about the next available session (held summer, fall, and spring each year).
Nazareth faculty who successfully complete the Essentials Workshop receive a stipend of $300. In lieu of a course load reduction, after the participant first delivers the course online or in the hybrid format, and completes the IDEA Online Evaluation process, the participant receives an additional $1,500. This total stipend of $1,800 is a one-time stipend that provides participants with the skills to create online/hybrid courses.
How to Apply: Download and complete the Essentials application and forward it to your dean. Deans will forward approved applications to the coordinator of teaching and learning technologies, who will confirm the participant's registration.
What is the Essentials Workshop
The Essentials Workshop introduces participants to Nazareth College's teaching philosophy for online education. Enrollees will become familiar with the online course planning process and the mechanics of Moodle (including use of course and content design features.) Andragogic approaches to online education will also be discussed.
As a result of the class, each participant will:
No face-to-face sessions are scheduled. However, if support is needed, appointments with the instructor will be made available upon request.
