Graduate assistantships (GA) provide a tuition waiver in exchange for work in a college office. The graduate assistantship is applied to the semester in which the graduate student is registered; if a student is not registered during the semester they are ineligible to receive a graduate assistantship award. Typically, a student works 10 hours per week during a 15-week semester in exchange for the tuition equivalent of one three-credit course in a fall or spring term. The maximum GA credit awarded for a summer term is 1.5 credits. Graduate Assistantships are limited to 4.5 credits in a fall/spring terms.
Important Tax Information:
According to current tax laws, there are tax implications related to graduate assistantships of which recipients should be aware. By law, Nazareth College must report to the Internal Revenue Service the value of the remuneration including course waivers over the period of a calendar year as income earned by the Graduate Assistant.
View the Graduate Assistant Contract for more information about GA requirements.
Note: DPT students will receive a tuition waiver at the current graduate general tuition rate unless the assistantship is in the Physical Therapy Clinic.
