Program Mission and Goals

The mission of the Nazareth BSW Program is to educate ethical, competent social workers prepared for graduate education and generalist practice. The Nazareth BSW program provides a supportive, equitable and inclusive learning environment that facilitates learning among a diverse student body and emphasizes social work values as well as knowledge and skill development to improve the effectiveness of social work practice, programs and policies. The Nazareth BSW program prepares students to engage in strengths-based, culturally responsive, anti-racist, anti-oppressive practice and to advance human rights as well as social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.

  1. Prepares competent, ethical, strengths-based generalist practitioners committed to culturally responsive, anti-racist, anti-oppressive practice with diverse populations and to advancing human rights as well as social, racial, economic and environmental justice.
  2. Provides a supportive, equitable and inclusive learning environment that facilitates learning among a diverse student body and emphasizes social work values as well as knowledge and skill development to improve the effectiveness of social work practice, programs and policies.
  3. Develops qualified candidates for graduate education and generalist practitioners dedicated to life-long learning.
Master of Social Work

Program Mission and Goals

The mission of the Nazareth MSW Program is to educate social work students to be ethical and competent advanced practitioners who, through collaborative and interprofessional practice, promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and serve as leaders and changemakers.

  1. Through the cultivation of knowledge, values and skills specific to the social work profession, develop ethical, professional and competent advanced practitioners who promote critical thinking and evidence-based practice processes 
  2. Advance collaboration, leadership, and interprofessional practice skills to improve the effectiveness of practitioners and serve as changemakers
  3. Valuing cultural humility, engage with diversity and difference to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and address bias and oppression

You will spend significant time in a range of practice settings, gaining the experience you need for a career in social work.

Social work students and faculty work in a collaborative, interprofessional teaching and learning environment providing social work services.


Study Abroad

Today's social worker practicing abroad or in the U.S. with immigrant or refugee populations needs an international lens to be an effective practitioner. 

  • India: An international cultural immersion trip to Kerala, India, including collaboration with Rajagiri College social work students and faculty.
  • Finland: This interprofessional class travels to Finland in collaboration with the Nursing and Social Service departments at Laurea University in Vantaa, Finland. Social work and nursing/public health students can learn about Finnish culture and approaches to health and human service delivery.  

Association of Social Work Students

Students integrate social work knowledge, skills, and values with the academic and social aspects of Nazareth and respond to the needs of the local community by participating in events and activities.


Phi Alpha Honor Society

Kappa Lambda Mu is the Nazareth Univesity's chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work. Phi Alpha is a national social work honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.
