FAQs for Student Leaders

Who can apply?

Candidates for Student Leader positions must be full-time Nazareth University students, at least a sophomore in the term they begin the job. Candidates must have GPA of at least 2.3 when applying and at least a 2.3 cumulative GPA the spring term prior to starting the job.

Will an Student Leader position affect my financial aid package?

The benefits of the Student Leader position will probably affect financial aid packages of those who receive aid. The law considers Student Leaders benefits as financial aid. For most students on aid, this replaces some awards such as work study and loans. Please check with the Financial Aid Office for details.

How should I dress for the interview?

As with any job interview, you are expected to dress for success. The Department of Residential Life sees the interview process as a chance to put your best foot forward. We encourage you check the Career Closet with the UA if you are in need of some business attire.

Where does Residential Life place Student Leaders?

Student Leaders will be placed in every residence hall. When you apply to be a Residential Life Student Leader, you are applying to work for the Department of Residential Life. Placement depends entirely on the needs of Residential Life and the skills brought by each candidate. If any housing accommodation is needed, the Department of Residential Life will work with students once hired.

What about references?

You will put the name of a faculty or staff member that will receive an email with a few questions to complete about you. Please do not list a current RA in this section of the application.

If I am selected, when does training begin?

If you are selected to be a student leader, you are required to attend all training and fully participate in opening the halls. Fall staff training lasts about a week and a half before Orientation and covers a variety of information. This time is critical to prepare you to serve as the best resources for their residents. You are also required to stay until halls close at the end of each semester and to come back early in January to help prepare for opening. All these and other important dates will be included in the Residential Life Student Leader Contract once the position is offered.

If I have been documented for an incident, can I still be an Student Leader?

Student behavior does play a role in the selection of Student Leaders. All applicants should be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct. If you currently have a sanction, you should discuss that during your Individual Interview. Students who are on Deferred Removal from the residence hall or Deferred Removal from Nazareth University are not eligible for a Student Leader position.

Where will I live?

All Resource Assistants (RA) and Community Assistants (CA) will be assigned to their own single rooms. RAs and CAs will not live together. Every residence hall will have RAs, CAs, or both depending on location. If you are assigned a location that has suitemates, you would be able to choose your suitemates. If you do not choose your suitemates, the office of residence life will fill those spaces based on need.

What if I need an accommodation?

After the offer letters have been sent via email, you will be asked if there are any accommodations that we should be aware of when making your placement.
