Naz students at CGI U
Three Nazareth students were accepted for 2020, for pursuing projects to advance human rights, alleviate poverty, and improve the environment. They were selected by the Clinton Global Initiative University among 600 innovative student leaders based on the strength of their projects, and were able to attend a virtual international CGI U conference (while in-person gatherings were suspended) in April 2020.
That brings to 34 the total number of Nazareth students chosen since 2014 by CGIU to attend this international conference based on the strength of their proposed projects.
How to get involved
Calling social innovators! Put your ideas into action! Nazareth students can submit project applications to the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U). The project would be a commitment to action: new, specific, and measurable initiatives that address pressing challenges. If your project is selected, you will attend the next CGI U conference, further develop the project, and put your plan into action. In past years, about 600 college students and leaders from around the world have convened for the CGI U training/conference.
Travel scholarships and funding for projects may be available.
Students can propose projects from five focus areas:
- Education
- Environment and climate change
- Peace and human rights
- Poverty alleviation
- Public health
The national CGI U organization provides more details. Nazareth faculty and staff are available to support you.

- Trainings and workshops to assist with the development of your project and with the application writing process.
- Faculty and staff members can provide guidance and mentoring.
- If your project is selected by CGI U, you may be eligible for start-up funding through Nazareth (a competitive process). In a typical year, $5,000 in grants have been awarded from the College.

To be eligible for travel funding and start-up funding, you must work with a faculty, staff, or approved community partner as an adviser.
