Mancus, McCormick Make First Team in Tennis

Jeremy Mancus ’13 and Ryan McCormick ’13 were first-team selections last spring as the Empire 8 Conference announced its all-star teams for men’s tennis. The teams were chosen through voting by the league’s head coaches.

In addition to Mancus and McCormick, who were selected as singles players, Tyler Williams ’16 made the second team. McCormick and Williams also made the first team for doubles and the team of Mancus and Erik Manske ’14 made the second team. Mancus also was Nazareth’s representative as E8 Sportsman of the Year.

McCormick, of Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of Irondequoit High School, was a first-team selection for the fourth year in a row after excelling for the Golden Flyers at first singles. He posted an overall singles record of 19-6 in 2012-13, including a 6-1 mark in conference matches. His 61 career singles wins rank fourth all-time for the Golden Flyers.

Mancus, of Irvington, N.Y. and a graduate of Irvington High School, played second singles for the Golden Flyers in 2012-13 and finished 10-11 overall and 5-2 in E8 matches. High 47 career singles wins rank in the top 10 all-time. He was a second-team all-conference selection last season.

Williams, of Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of Palmyra-Macedon, played mostly fifth singles and had a 7-7 overall record with a 6-1 mark in conference play.

In doubles play, the teams of McCormick-Williams and Mancus-Manske each had 5-2 records in conference matches. McCormick and Williams finished 5-10 overall, while Mancus and Manske were 8-7.
