Nazareth Inducts Five into Sports Hall of Fame

Four All-American lacrosse players, an All-American soccer player, and a regional championship basketball team were the inductees in September at Nazareth College’s 19th annual Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner.

Joe Alden ’93 and Carl Jutzin ’93, each All-Americans and members of Nazareth’s first national championship team in 1992, were honored along with former lacrosse standout Ryan Hotaling ’07. Former women’s lacrosse standout Lindsay Gotham ’06 and former soccer standout Kristina Cristofori ’07, ’12G also were inducted.

Also honored in the special recognition category was the 1983-84 men’s basketball team, which finished with an overall record of 22-6, captured the NCAA Division III East Region title, and reached the national quarterfinals.

Alden was a three-time All-American defenseman as a lacrosse standout for the Golden Flyers. He was a starter on the 1992 national championship team and earned second-team All-American honors that season. He also served as team captain in 1993 and helped the Golden Flyers reach the national semifinals.

Cristofori was a two-year standout for the Golden Flyers and a first-team All-American in 2004 after leading the team in scoring with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. She also was a two-time Empire 8 Conference all-star and league’s Player of the Year in 2004.

Gotham was a standout women’s lacrosse defender for the Golden Flyers and a first-team All-American in 2005. She also was a four-time Empire 8 Conference all-star and was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2002.

Hotaling was a three-year All-American as an attackman for the Golden Flyers. He also was a three-time Empire 8 Conference all-star and was the league’s Player of the Year in 2007.

Jutzin was a four-year midfield standout for the Golden Flyers and a two-time All-American. He played on the Golden Flyers’ 1992 national championship team and helped Nazareth to two other NCAA tournament berths.

Nazareth’s 1983-84 men’s basketball team was coached by Nazareth Hall of Famer Bill Nelson and included five members of the Sports Hall of Fame: Todd Calman ’87, Paul Cummings ’85, Chris McCaffrey ’87, Lawrence Maroney ’84, and Jeff Van Gundy ’85.
