Drew Simoneau ’15, Nazareth’s record-breaking face-off specialist, was honored as a third-team men’s lacrosse All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association in 2014.
Simoneau, of Manchester, N.H. and two-time Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, was the Golden Flyers’ lone representative on the All-American team. He was an honorable mention selection in 2013.
Simoneau was masterful for the Golden Flyers as a face-off specialist in 2014 as he led all of Division III with 12.72 ground balls per game. He also ranked among the national leaders in face-off percentage, winning 277 of 408 draws for 67.9 percent. In addition, he scored eight goals and added two assists.
Through three seasons, Simoneau has already shattered Nazareth career records for ground balls (577) and face-offs won (753).
In addition to Simoneau, seven other players were named to the Empire 8 Conference all-star team. Midfielder Collin Clark ’14 and attackman Troy Haefele ’16 joined Simoneau on the first team.
Clark of Austin, Texas, was a repeat selection to the first team after finishing the 2014 season as the Golden Flyers’ top scoring midfielder with 39 points on 26 goals and 13 assists. He also became the 13th player in Nazareth lacrosse history to reach 100 career goals. Haefele, of Greene, Maine, also was a repeat selection to the first team after finishing second on the team in scoring with 57 points on 38 goals and 19 assists. He has 86 career goals after two seasons.
Nazareth also had five second-team representatives in attackman Luke Wooters ’16, midfielder Brian Wright ’14, short-stick specialist Chris Aycock ’14, defenseman Jerry Chasteen ’15, and defenseman Mark Pinski ’14. In addition, midfielder Chris Benza ’14 was Nazareth’s representative as E8 Sportsman of the Year.
