Why get vaccinated

Living in close contact with many others can lead to rapid spread of influenza, which typically sickens people, including young adults, for eight days or more, so it's important to get vaccinated each year.

Now more than ever, it is imperative that all students and employees receive an annual influenza vaccine, unless they have a contraindication to the vaccine. While influenza vaccine does not protect against COVID-19, it may keep many in our community out of healthcare facilities, where they could be at increased risk of infection. Flu vaccine reduces unnecessary healthcare visits and hospitalizations and protects vulnerable populations at high risk of influenza complications. This includes people with underlying conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, those who are immunocompromised, and children under 5 years of age.
