Nazareth Professor Writes Book on Media Marathoning

Have you ever watched all eight Harry Potter movies in 24 hours? What about all the seasons of The Walking Dead within five days? After studying media marathoning for four years, gathering information from nearly 200 media marathoners and teaching a class on the subject, Nazareth College Professor Lisa Perks has put her research into her Media Marathoning: Immersions in Morality book, which is set to release in early-December.

Italian Women's Civic Club Gives Nazareth Student Scholarship

Nazareth College is pleased to congratulate Melissa Stio as a recipient of the 2014 Dante Scholarship Award from the Italian Women’s Civic Club (IWCC). Stio will receive an award of $2,700 for her next semester’s costs. Recipients are selected from all the eligible candidates by members of the Dante Scholarship Committee. Awards are based on criteria set by the committee and include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and personal identification with Italian American heritage. Dante Scholarships are awarded ever year to recognize academic achievement and promote pride in Italian American heritage.

Watch Night Re-enactment, Nov. 4

Nazareth’s Institute for Pluralism and the Center for Spirituality are collaborating to create a historical re-enactment of the event. The re-enactment will unfold on Tuesday, November 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Linehan Chapel.

American Academy of Nursing Gives High Honor to Nazareth's Nursing Chair

Nazareth College congratulates Jeanine Santelli, chair and professor of the department of nursing, for being inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). As a fellow, Santelli will contribute her time to the academy while engaging with other health leaders outside the academy to transform America’s health system. Together, fellows will enhance the quality of health and nursing, promote healthy aging and human life development, reduce health inequality, shape healthy behaviors and environments, integrate mental and physical health, and strengthen the nursing and health delivery system, both nationally and internationally.

Nazareth College Representatives to Speak at TEDxRochester, Nov. 15

Nazareth College is excited to have four representatives presenting at TEDxRochester on Saturday, November 15 at East High School located at 1801 East Main street, Rochester, N.Y. 14609. Shanna Jamanis, Dawn Volger-Elias, Jeremy Bagley and Ted Baumhauer will be representing Nazareth as they share their insight and knowledge with the Rochester community. Jamanis and Volger-Elias will present together on how they are working to change relationships between children with autism spectrum disorders and their care givers and teachers, by changing the way we look at their challenges. Bagley will join another member of Rochester’s community to share their thoughts on how veterans are integrated into a vet-friendly environment. Baumhauer will present a unique leadership program.

Nazareth College Creates Campus Illuminated in Green

Nazareth College is taking energy savings to a new level by becoming one of the first colleges nationwide to complete an overhaul of its campus lighting. The 150 acre, tree-lined campus, located near Rochester, N.Y., will soon be lit by more than 600 energy-efficient LED lights, reducing the College’s electricity needs by more than 70% and cutting the equivalent carbon emissions by more than 350 tons a year. It is one of the largest projects of its size in the nation.

Manson, will be presenting Grace on the Margins: Envisioning an Inclusive Church on Thursday, October 16 at 7 p.m. in the Forum of the Otto A. Shults Community Center. Emerson Challenge Helps Secure Funding For Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute

Nazareth College is pleased to announce that it has successfully raised more than $800,000 in new gifts and commitments to secure a $300,000 challenge grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation of Auburn, N.Y., for a total of approximately $1.1 million toward the Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute (WRI). The final gift of $150,000 that put the funding initiative over the top came from M&T Bank, a longtime supporter of the College.
