Golden Flyers’ women’s volleyball player Maria Allocco ’15 was included as a third-team representative on the Division III All-America teams chosen by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Allocco, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Ballston Lake, N.Y., was one of 42 players chosen to the first three All-America teams. She was an honorable mention selection last year.
Allocco led Nazareth to its third straight Empire 8 Conference title in 2013 as she was chosen MVP of the conference tournament for the third year in a row. She totaled 316 kills and now has 923 for her career. She also had 51 service aces and a team-high 81 blocks. Her .387 hitting percentage (316-72-631) ranked among the top 10 nationally in Division III.
Allocco also was a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star for the second year in a row and twice was honored this season as E8 Player of the Week. Outside hitter Kassandra Buseck ’15 also was honored as a first-team E8 all-star. Setter Madi Wickens ’17 was named to the second team and Katherine Race ’15 was Nazareth’s representative as Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year.
Buseck, of Johnstown, N.Y. and a graduate of Johnstown High School, led the Golden Flyers with 355 kills and was second in blocks with 69. Wickens, of Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy, had a team-high 856 assists in addition to 37 service aces and 254 digs.
The Golden Flyers finished 29-9 overall in 2013 and made their 11th NCAA Tournament appearance, losing in the first round to New York University in three sets.
