Jimmy Gaffney ’14 and Simon Mounsdon ’14 each were second-team selections on the 2013 Empire 8 Conference all-star team for men’s soccer.
In addition to Gaffney and Mounsdon, Nazareth had four honorable mention choices. Forward Scott Duarte ’14, midfielder Ramez Al-Hebshi ’16, back Brian Lang ’15, and back Jason Renfro ’14 also represented the Golden Flyers. Brendan Miles ’16 was the Golden Flyers’ representative as E8 Sportsman of the Year.
Gaffney, of Hilton, N.Y. and a graduate of Hilton High School, was an honorable mention choice in 2012. He appeared in 15 games for Nazareth in 2013 and contributed two goals and one assist. Mounsdon, of Somerset, England, was a second-team selection in 2011. He also appeared in 15 games in 2013 and contributed three goals and three assists.
Duarte, of Cranston, R.I., had three goals and two assists for the Golden Flyers in 2013. All three of his goals came in a 5-1 win over Alfred in Nazareth’s regular-season finale last November. Al-Hebshi, of Cape Coral, Fla., scored two goals in his first season with the Golden Flyers.
Renfro, of Fairport, N.Y., started regularly for the Golden Flyers and had a team-high five assists in 2013. Lang, of Rochester and a graduate of Churchville-Chili, also played regularly and had one assist in 16 starts.
Miles, of Victor, N.Y., is Nazareth’s Sportsman of the Year representative for the second year in a row. Empire 8 emphasizes that “Competing with Honor and Integrity” is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
