Women's Lacrosse Team Earns Community Service Honor

Nazareth’s women’s lacrosse team was awarded the 2013 Division III Team Community Awareness Award at the annual convention of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association in Orlando in November. The award recognizes the Golden Flyers for their work and dedication to the community for the 2012–13 academic year. Other award winners were St. Leo University in Division II and Detroit Mercy in Division I.

Nazareth’s women’s lacrosse team, guided by head coach Traci Lian, completed several community service projects, including some that directly benefitted the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital. They assisted with the set-up for the annual Golisano Children’s Hospital Gala, ran a beading booth at the annual Winter Walk for Strong Children, and served on the Battle of the Beaks Committee to fundraise at the Nazareth-St. John Fisher basketball games. Other projects included coaching and evaluating area youth lacrosse players at the Common Goal Tryouts, making yarn dolls for Dress A Girls Around the World, and spending time at the Motherhouse with the Sisters of St. Joseph.
