Prerequisites

Grade Point Average (GPA)

  • Candidates for teacher certification: minimum GPA of 2.7
  • Majors in the sciences, clinical lab sciences, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and communication sciences and disorders (speech): minimum GPA 3.0 cumulative with "B" average in math and sciences.
  • All other programs: GPA of 2.5 or higher is preferred

Nursing

Applying: The following details apply to three Nazareth nursing programs:

Admissions standards

  • A cumulative minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.
  • See Prerequisite coursework below.
  • If fewer than 30 college credits have been earned/in progress, your high school transcript must be sent.

Deadlines

  • Application deadlines for fall: May 1 preferred for fall; applications will be considered on a rolling basis as space permits until August 1.
  • Application deadline for spring: Oct. 1; applications will be considered on a rolling basis as space permits until December 1.
  • Admissions decisions are mailed on a rolling basis.

Prerequisite coursework
For direct entry into the Nursing program, the following prerequisite coursework must be completed with a grade of “B” or better without "repeats." Science coursework must have been taken within the last five years.

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab), must be completed at the same institution as A&P II
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II (with lab), must be completed at the same institution as A&P I
  • Microbiology (with lab)
  • One semester of college-level Chemistry (with lab)
  • Statistics
  • Developmental Psychology
Communication Sciences & Disorders

Applying: A cumulative minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.

Prerequisite coursework: Public Speaking or Small Group Communication

Occupational Therapy

Applying

  • A cumulative minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.
  • Application deadline: March 1 for summer and fall start. Decisions are mailed in mid-March.

Due to the sequential nature of the coursework, all transfer students enter with sophomore or junior status.

  • For those entering as sophomores: The following prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or better without repeats and must have been within the last five years: Biology (with lab), Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with lab) — and the Human Anatomy and Physiology courses must be completed at the same institution.
  • For those entering as juniors: You must have completed an associate’s or bachelor's degree (in any major, as long as you have completed the prerequisites). You must have completed the following prerequisites.  Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to Sociology or Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Statistics. The science coursework must have been taken within the last five years and have a grade C or higher: Biology (with lab), Physics (with lab), and Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with lab) — and the Human Anatomy and Physiology courses must be completed at the same institution.
Physical Therapy
  • You must have an overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher and a science-based GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
  • Success in foundational science courses is positively associated with student success in our PT program.
  • Personal statements should focus on how you are committed to the profession and major.
