Allocco Named Second-Team All-American

Maria Allocco ’15 closed an honor-filled volleyball career last November when she was named as a second-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In addition, Madi Wickens ’17 was an honorable mention choice.

A 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Ballston Lake, N.Y., Allocco was one of 42 players chosen to the top three All-American teams. She was a third-team selection in 2013 and an honorable mention choice in 2012.

Allocco was a dominant player for the Golden Flyers for four seasons, guiding them to three Empire 8 Conference titles and three NCAA Tournament berths. She amassed 1,339 kills for her career to rank sixth all-time. She ranks fourth in service aces (211) and total blocks (336).

In 2014, Allocco led the Golden Flyers with 416 kills and 67 service aces and ranked second nationally with a .420 hitting percentage. She was named Empire 8 Player of the Year and earned first-team all-league honors for the third year in a row. Carrying a 3.69 grade-point average, Allocco also made the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Wickens, of Rochester, N.Y., also earned first-team Empire 8 all-star honors after leading the team in assists with 1,208 and ranking second in service aces with 62. She had 68 assists in a five-set match against Houghton last fall for the second highest single-match total in Nazareth history.

Kassandra Buseck ’15 and Olivia Harrigan ’15 also represented Nazareth on the Empire 8 Conference all-star team. Buseck was named to the second team and Harrigan was named honorable mention. Buseck amassed 1,105 kills over four seasons and Harrigan had 906.

Nazareth finished 26-10 overall in 2014 and lost in the championship match of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
