Defender Tyler Carr ’15, who helped Nazareth win the co-championship of the Empire 8 Conference in women’s soccer, was named as a third-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America last December.
Carr, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, was a defensive standout for the Golden Flyers for four seasons and started regularly for three seasons. She played in 75 games during her career, including 22 in 2014. She spearheaded a defensive unit that posted a goals-against average of 0.80 with 11 shutouts. Carr was honored earlier in the season as a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star and was named the E8 Defensive Player of the Year. She also was named MVP of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament after Nazareth posted shutouts against Stevens and Ithaca to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
Nazareth finished 15-4-4 in 2014 and reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Carr is Nazareth’s seventh All-American selection in women’s soccer, joining two-time selection Melanie Northrup ’00 (1997, 1999) as well as Jaime Snyder ’03 (2001), Heidi Brown ’03 (2002), Kristina Cristofori ’07, ’12G (2004), and Amanda Sudore ’13, ’15G (2011).
In addition to Carr, forward Briana Vibbard ’16, midfielder Michaela Soules ’17, midfielder Christine Belding ’13, ’15G, and defender Kaitlyn Sowyrda ’15 were selected as first-team Empire 8 all-stars. Goalie Allison Dobles ’17 was named to the second team and the Golden Flyers’ coaching staff, headed by Gail Mann, was named E8 Coaching Staff of the Year. Ashtin Argentieri ’15 was Nazareth’s representative as E8 Sportswoman of the Year.
