How money works

I love to educate my students on the way that money works — specifically when it comes to taxation and personal finances.

I teach Intro to Accounting, Federal Taxation, Intermediate Accounting, Corporate Tax, and Personal Finance.

Why do students like to learn from you?

I try to make complicated topics less intimidating and more relatable.

My teaching style is a blend of culturally responsive teaching and schema activation. I try to find things that the students already know about or are familiar with, then build my lesson using that as an anchor.

I try to use as many real-world examples as possible and also try to make them as relatable as possible. Not everyone has a mortgage at 20, but most people have at least used a credit card. So I use that to explain debt and work them up to how other more complicated transactions work.

Why Naz?

It is a great place to get one-on-one time with the professors if you desire it. The team is very diverse in terms of experience in the academic world as well as industry.

I started at Nazareth in 2024.

Advice for students to best prepare for their career?

I think the best thing they can do is start now. Whatever opportunities they have to think like an accountant will help them once they get on the job. When accounting is second nature, it is a lot easier to attack complicated problems and situations. It allows you to ask better questions and seek help when you need it.
