Commuting 101

Commuters are an important part of the community here at Nazareth. We strive to make it easy to stay connected to everything going on at Naz while also providing information, resources, and support that promote your success.

Helpful Information

24-Hour Computer Lab

There are two 24-hour labs available for use where you can print an essay or work on an assignment without distractions. Smyth 142 and Clock Tower Commons computer lab. Additionally, all academic computer labs are available for commuter students during building hours. More computer lab info »


An M&T Bank ATM is located in the lower level of the Shults Center.

Career Closet

Whether you need a full suit or just a great-looking tie or blouse, the Career Closet has you covered! Students can take, free of charge, clothing needed for interviews, internships, job fairs, networking opportunities, award events, and community site placements.

Browse & order now: The entire inventory of the Career Closet is now online. You can place your order to be picked up in Shults 104 or request for it to be delivered or mailed to you.

Clubs and Intramurals & Recreation

See our student club information and participate in the Student Engagement Expo at the beginning of each semester to learn more. See the Intramurals & Recreation page for details about group fitness classes, tournaments, outdoor adventure, and other sporting events.

Commuter & Transfer Assistants (CTAs)

Commuter & Transfer Assistants (CTAs) offer guidance and support to commuter students, particularly first-year and second-year commuters, and transfer by engaging these populations in campus events, activities, programs, and services. CTAs serve as a liaison between commuter and transfer students and administration, advocating for the interests and needs of these students. In addition, CTAs ensure that the Commuter & Transfer Lounge is a functional and welcoming space for all commuter students to use.

Commuter & Transfer Lounge

Location: Upper floor of Shults Center. 

Amenities: Comfortable seating, computers, a TV, and more.

Kitchen: A full kitchen with stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig, and refrigerator is available in the Alice Foley Room, next to the Commuter Lounge.

Dining Options

The dining services website has details about commuter meal plans, places to eat (Dining Choices), food options (including vegetarian, vegan, and foods free of the top 8 allergens), dining hours, and more.

If you don't choose a commuter meal plan, you can use cash or credit to pay for your meal.

Emergency and Weather Closings

NazAlert is the mass emergency notification system of Nazareth College and is used simultaneously notify you of an emergency on campus, the nature of the situation, and precautionary actions to take. NazAlert is an opt-out system. Your Nazareth email address and primary cell phone number (currently on file) have been automatically added to the system.

Fitness Options

See the Athletic & Fitness Facilities webpage for details about indoor and outdoor fitness options, including the pool and racquetball courts in Shults Center, the outdoor track and stadium, and the Golisano Training Center.

You can also borrow a bike from Bikes@Naz.

Game Room

The Nest, located in the Lourdes basement, is open to you with your ID and features pool tables, foosball, video games, and more.

Health & Counseling Services

Commuters can use the health and counseling services available on campus. Medical and mental health visits are included in college fees. Lab work, other testing, and medication prescriptions will be covered through your health insurance.


To secure a locker, go to the Information Desk in the Shults Center.

Motorist Assistance

Campus Safety offers jump starts, lock out assistance, escorts in dark areas/late hours, and assistance in contacting a towing service/auto club. 

Reserved Room

There is a reserved room on the lower level of the Shults Center that can be used as a lactation room or private room to check insulin or take care of other medical needs. 

Study Spaces

Besides the library, other good study spots include the Pool Overlook, Commuter Lounge, Reading Lounge, and the overlook by the racquetball courts in the Shults Center.

Parking & Transportation

Buses: Several RTS bus routes travel to Naz. See schedules here.

Gas stations: There are several gas stations in the village of Pittsford and on Monroe Avenue. 

Parking/permits: All vehicles on campus need a parking pass. Register your car, find out where to park, and more.

Transportation help: Campus Safety can jump start your car, help if you lock your keys in your car, or provide an escort.

Undergraduate Association (UA)

The UA is the student government at Naz. The UA provides funds, information, and other resources to encourage student involvement and allow students to pursue their own interests. Every full-time, fee-paying, undergraduate student is a member of the UA and can take advantage of clubs/organizations, events, and services offered by the student government. 

Oak Tree Food Pantry

Nazareth students, in collaboration with multiple departments on campus, maintain a food pantry on campus to serve the Nazareth community.

Need resources?

Community members can come to the food pantry once a week, and take any seven items at no cost! 

Don't need food? Volunteers can connect community members to outside resources based on a number of needs including:

  • housing 
  • food 
  • community centers 
  • transportation
