Peru

The Center for International Education is excited to announce this new program in collaboration with Minga Peru, a nongovernmental organization serving the remote, indigenous populations living in the Loreto region of Peru's Amazon River Basin, and the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima. On this program, students will experience three distinct regions of the country: the Amazon River Basin in Iquitos and Nauta, the bustling capital of Lima, and the rich cultural and historic center of Cusco and the Sacred Valley. From traveling the Amazon by boat and learning from the indigenous communities about sustainable farming and rural health, to taking in the incredible mountaintop views at Machu Picchu and reveling in the awe-inspiring history of the Sacred Valley, students will have endless opportunities to get to know this country and make quality connections within the communities they interact with.

Program Highlights:

  • Meet and learn from multiple indigenous communities in the Amazon River Basin to discover all that is being done to address sustainability, rural health and business development, and representation in the Amazon.
  • Explore how different sectors have been focusing on sustainability and renewable energy in the capital of Lima while meeting local Peruvian students at UPC.
  • Experience the wonder of the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley
  • Walk through Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, now famed for its Spanish colonial architecture, and explore how the city's long history continues to influence the city and people today.
