Summer in Dakar

Upon reviewing State Department travel advisory as well as the policies of fellow international educators across the USA relating to study abroad to West Africa, the program to Senegal for 2014 was canceled.

Enjoy a three-week summer program in Dakar, Senegal. From exploring the variety and richness of the literature, history, natural beauties, and culture of different regions in Senegal, to meeting with business leaders (corporate and NGO), healthcare specialists and media experts, students will gain a deep and nuanced understanding of Senegalese society.

Program Highlights:

  • Visit Gorée Island; Saint Louis and the desert region of Lompoul (in the North).
  • Explore the "little coast" and the village of Joal, where Lépold Sédar Senghor, president and acclaimed writer, was born (in the South).
  • Tour the pilgrimage site of Touba, near the village of Ndem (central Senegal).
  • Excursions to Lake Redba and to the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary are also scheduled, as well as a safari in the Bandia Reservation.
  • This program fulfills students’ Experiential Learning (EL) Core requirements; you do not need to know French to participate.
