Cheryl Guth retired in 2017 after a 38 year career teaching strings and orchestra in Pennsylvania and New York. She worked with students in elementary through high school. For the last 29 years of her career, she taught in the Brighton Central School District where she taught lessons on all string instruments and conducted orchestras at the elementary and high school. The high school ensembles included three orchestras and many chamber groups. Improvisation and composition were a favorite part of the curriculum. She received the Rochester Philharmonic Music Educator Award in 2006.
Since retiring, she has taught courses at Roberts Wesleyan and Nazareth Colleges. She conducted the Monroe All County Elementary Orchestra in March 2019. Starting fall of 2019, she will be on the staff of the Eastman Community Music School, conducting one of the New Horizon Orchestras.
Cheryl has a B.S. in Music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Music performance from the same university. She performs in the Roberts Wesleyan Orchestra, the Greater Rochester Women’s Philharmonic.
She lives in Brighton and has two daughters. Cheryl enjoys yoga, and is an avid runner, always looking forward to the next marathon.
