David Horace Davies


David Horace Davies' music has been performed across the United States and internationally in prestigious venues such as the New York City's renowned Carnegie Hall and the historic Great Hall at Cooper Union.  International performance venues include the Ghent Opera House in Belgium, the Culturo Jorge Borges in Buenos Aires, Unibes Cultural in Sao Paulo, and the Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico in San Juan. His works have been included in the Basically Beethoven Festival in Dallas, New Music on the Bayou in Louisiana, the Sao Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival in Brazil, and the Frontwave New Music Festival in West Palm Beach.  

Davies received a D.M.A. in Composition in 2007 from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he studied composition with Dennis Kam and John Van der Slice.  Prior to his time at UM, he studied composition and conducting with Mark Hijleh and piano with Robert Galloway at the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College.  A finalist for the Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Davies’ works have received awards from the College Music Society and the International Arts Movement.  He is a multiple Semi-Finalist for the American Prize for Choral Composition and has twice received Honorable Mention from that organization.  In 2019 he was the Distinguished Commissioned Composer of the Year for the Texas Music Teachers Association. 

Davies currently serves as Associate Professor  & Director of the School of Music at Nazareth College, having previously served as the Head of the Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Commerce and on the music faculties of the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College (NY) and Augustana College (IL). 

In addition to his work as an educator and administrator, Davies is an active organist and choral conductor.  For several years, he has been an active member of the Society of Composers, Inc., the College Music Society, and the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC) and has served as President of Board for the CFAMC since 2016.

David lives in New York with his wife, their four children, and an orange cat named Spot.
